Graveyard Shift

Graveyard Shift is the debut novel from Michael Haspil who is a veteran of the air force an avid lover of ancient Egypt, he is also a huge fan of table top gaming and an all-around nerd.

In the book Alex and Marcus are detectives in a very special department in the Miami PD. Their unit serves as the vice squad in a city where vampires and shapeshifters have made themselves quite comfortable. Alex is a reanimated mummy who recharges himself with the rays of the sun. Marcus is an ancient Roman vampire and the two keep the city safe from criminal vampires, shapeshifters that could go on a rampage and the mysterious serial killer that is targeting vampires. The team needs to keep control of a Miami that is falling into chaos. There are shifters running wild, vampires drinking tainted blood and losing control and then there are the vampires that don’t want to follow the rules. To save the city Alex and Marcus need to trust no one, gather intelligence from any source necessary, find alliances in strange places and break the rules themselves.

This book was so amazing! The way that Michael writes makes the action so intense and real. The whole book was very fast paced and hard to put down. From the very first page I could not put this book down. I even gave it to my mother who doesn’t read much and reads very slowly. She finished it in four days and loved every bit of it. I loved the banter between Alex and Marcus which really balanced out the action with a little bit of dry humor.

I fully recommend this book to everyone who likes gritty urban fantasy that is not like the rest. The vampires are dark, soulless and can hold grudges for centuries and that is so refreshing in a world where there are so many vampire books.

Michael did such a wonderful job and I can’t wait to read more from him. Also I got the opportunity to meet him at Denver Comic Con he was so nice and enthusiastic. Please feel free to follow him on social media
