Review of the Dragonlands series

I recently read the first three books in the Dragonlands series by Megg Jensen. As the name suggests it is a fantasy series set in a fantastical land with magic, dragons and strange events.

The story centres around a small town in the middle of nowhere in the Dragonlands, which are aptly named because there are dragons. Eighty-some years before the story takes place the village of Hutton's Bridge os covered in a thick fog and all the adult villagers have disappeared. The children make the best of the situation and from as orderly society as they can. No one has come out of the mist to save them and no one sent through the mist has ever come back alive.

The main story follows Tressa, a barren woman that is chosen by the town to go through the fog, and most certainly to her death. Things get interesting when Tressa goes through the mist and doesn't die. Tressa and her companions travel the Dragonlands looking for answers and a way to take down the fog.

I have some major problems with these books. The first problem is that the pacing is so slow to the point of boring. There are so many chapters that are so short it feels like the majority of the book is filler. Also the plot is so basic and predictable that there is no reason for the book to be so long.

My second MAJOR problem is with the plot. The plot is so simple it is a dissappointment to the whole fantasy genre. Every problem the main character, Tressa, faces is easily solved by either avoiding the situation or by getting an unprecedented amount of help from nearly everyone she meets. With all the help she gets and the amount of time she spends running away from the problems, Tressa never learns anything or does anything by herself.

All in all the books I read were terrible and I am no going to finish the series. If this review hasn't deterred you from reading the books you can find them on Amazon by searching "Dragonlands by Megg Jensen" in the kindle store.
