The fork, The witch, and the worm

Late last year the best selling author Christopher Paolini took readers back to the fantastical land of Alagaësia for three never before seen short stories.

In the three short stories we get the point of view of characters from the main series and a new legend from the Urgals.

The fork is about what Murtagh is doing in what used to be the empire. He has a new name and a new outlook on life but readers will be glad to know that Murtagh seems to be doing better since the conclusion of the last book.

The witch is an excerpt from the memoir of the mysterious witch Angela. Written by the inspiration for the character, Angela Paolini writes intriguing snippets from the witch's life that leave readers with more questions about such an elusive character.

The worm is by far my favourite story in this collection. This is an epic Urgal legend that is told to Earagon on a cold winter night. The tale tells about a dragon that terrorized a village of Urgals and one young Urgal's life long obsession to defeat the dragon and free her people.

I was so excited when I heard that Christopher Paolini was writing another book. I was a bit shocked that the new book was a collection of short stories and not a continuation of his previous works, but after reading it I liked it. The only downside that I can see is that this book has a required reading of four good sized books. For those that have read the Inheritance Cycle ad ejoyed it, the this is the book for you.
